REBECCA SAUNDERS

A professionally trained violinist, Rebecca Saunders studied composition at Edinburgh University with Nigel Osborne and Wolfgang Rhim in Germany.

One of her particularities is her use of mechanical instruments, like music boxes. Space and silence interrupting specific orders are fundamental in her musical conception as are spatialization and the placement of musical instruemnts in the room: she sculpts sound and creates music like an architect. Rebecca Saunders worked with Sasha Waltz on a choreographic installation: Insideout (2003).
