PHILIPPE LEROUX

Philippe Leroux began at the CNSMD de Paris in 1978, studying under I. Malec, C. Ballif, P. Schaeffer, and G. Reibel. He also studied with O. Messiaen, F. Donatoni, B. Jolas, J.C. Eloy, and I. Xenakis.

His catalogue includes over 70 chamber, symphonic, acoustomatic, and vocal works, with or without electronics (Philippe Leroux is a frequent visitor at IRCAM). Neglecting neither humour nor emotion, Philippe Leroux cultivates an aesthetic made up of movements, using systems created using polyrythmic and polymetric circles, creating a feeling of rhythmic freedom found in speech. Philippe Leroux is also interested in poetry and theater, sometimes neglecting the meaning in favor of the text's musicality.
