MAURO LANZA

Mauro Lanza studied piano, writing, and musicology in Venice before studying under Brian Ferneyhough, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Gérard Grisey. Quite playful and often malicious, both demanding and aloof, his music combines traditional instruments, electro-acoustic elements, and an array of toy instruments and amazing machines. Mauro Lanza has a strong propensity for multidisciplinary projects, collaborating with the choreographer Angelin Preljocaj or the video artist Paolo Pachini.

Mauro Lanza has taught at McGill University and IRCAM; he regularly teaches master classes at the conservatories in Paris, Cagliari, and Cuneo. He participates in research carried out at IRCAM in the domains of synthesis through physical models and computer-assisted composition.
